Vassilikades

Vassilikades is a village in the Erissos region in north Kefalonia.

The village of Fiscardo is to the north 8 kms away and to the south Assos is 10 kms with the beach of Myrtos a few more kms south.

The main village is situated on the main road leading to Fiscardo. It has a couple of tavernas and cafes, a supermarket and local health centre and chemist as well as a petrol station.

Vassilikades is sometimes called Enosi locally which means 'union' in Greek and refers to the union of villages when one new village was built after the distruction of some smaller ones in the earthquake of 1953.

Views from certain vantage points in this area are across the island's forested west coast and across the sea to the island of Lefkas. It is a well known vantage point for stunning sunsets.

Depending on which way you are travelling, the beginning and the end of Vassilikades can be easily found. Travelling from Fiscardo the beginning of the village is the local store with clock-tower.

Travelling north from Assos the first place you see in Vassilikades is the Veggera taverna which marks the beginning of the village.

Vassilikades has a public health centre with doctor's surgery. This serves the local area including Fiscardo.

Above the Archontiko Supermarket in Fiscardo. You can also get to the surgery by parking your car in the main car park past the Fiscardo Bay Hotel. Walk towards the church, through playground, down steps toards Archontiko supermarket and the Doctor is on the left. For Private services - check with doctor for costs of call out etc.

The local town hall has been relocated to a smart new building where civil ceremonies can be performed making the village of Vassilikades an interesting village venue for a traditional Greek village wedding.

The most recent addition to the village is the a restaurant Veggera situated on the outskirts of the village which is attractive with spacious gardens and lovely views.

There is a snack bar and pizzeria as well as a cafe bar in the village.

Makis taverna is in the centre of the village on the main road.

And the chemist at Vassilikades is the chemist which supplies all villages in the area including Fiscardo.

From Vassilikades the nearest beaches are at Alaties and Ai Jerusalem. Both beaches have a taverna which is open in the summer months.

Alaties is a small beach with rocks for sunbathing.
Excellent snorkelling.
