AGHIA EFIMIA and South East

Back to Top of AGHIA EFIMIA and South East PageSE Coast beaches

Beaches along the south east coast tend to be pebbly and from Sami down to Poros the coastline offers mostly beaches which are inaccessible by road. Antisammos is probably the most famous in this area as it was one of the locations used when filming Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

Aghia Efimia

Once a Venetian fishing village, the pretty port of Aghia Efimia has some tiny pebbly coves reached by steps, or by clambering down rocks which can provide a more comfortable place to sunbathe.
Water here is clear as crystal with stunning views over to the island of Ithaca. No sunbeds around but plenty of places to eat and drink nearby.

Paradise

At the far end of Aghia Efimia, is a pebble beach accessible by either of two flights of stone steps and some scrambling across the rocks. Take your own sun umbrella for shade.

Aghia Paraskevi

This is the largest of a number of pretty pebbly coves along this part of the main road, south of Aghia Efimia. Accessible by walking a few metres along a footpath.

Karavomilos

A picturesque location with a narrow shingle beach and a nearby watermill and duck pond. It is here that water which entered the island at Katavothres, spills into the sea after its long and cavernous journey underground.

Sami

From Karavomilos there is a narrow ribbon of shingle beach, which runs along the coastline to the east of Sami, a thriving harbour town. There is another town beach here to the west of the port.

Between Sami and Antisammos, this picturesque pebbly cove may be reached by boat or footpath.

Antissamos Bay

A famous and picturesque horse-shoe shaped beach of coarse white sand and pebbles, surrounded by slopes of fir trees. There is a snack bar on the beach and it was here that Captain Corelli drilled his men at the Italian encampment set on the beach at Antisammos.

Koutsoupia Bay

Loutsoupia Bay is accessible only by boat and this pebble beach has a backdrop of pine trees, is wonderfully secluded and private.

Makria Petra

Another beach accessible only by boat, and again another pebbly secluded beach with thickly wooded slopes.

Poros

Poros is more famous for its ferry connection with mainland Kilini, than for the local beaches. The town beach is very close to the shops and other facilities and you can hire sunbeds and beach umbrellas. It is a safe pebble beach suitable for children. The longer beach of Aragia which is pebble and shingle, is accessed by a bridge across a dry river bed and here you will find more beach facilities and motor-boats for hire. There are also tavernas nearby.

Blue Flag for Poros

and 10-20m wide is accessible by foot along its

beach. The seashore of Rayia Beach adjoins with
the main route artery of Poros Village. Its sandy and
pebble beach is one of the main attractions of this
rural and urban tourist resort.Poplar trees and rose-bay bushes add to the resort's natural beauty.

For 13 kilometres, the well surfaced coastal road runs from Poros, with its shingle town beaches, to Skala with its long sandy beaches. En route you will find some pebbly and rocky coves and little bays not far from the coastal road - Heroulaki, Kapri and Kako Laggadi are 3 of them.
