Lassi and the South West

The most famous blue flag in the area is Makris Yialos (Long Beach)offering water-sports. Platis (Wide Beach) beach is 200 metres by 20 to 50 metres wide and Makrys is 750 metres long with similar width. The beaches are fringed with pines and cypresses. Wide Beach.
A Blue Flag Beach and perfect paradise, this sandy beach is well run by the local council who provide toilets, showers and changing rooms. They have a snack bar by the beach from where you can also hire sunbeds and beach umbrellas. Swimming is safe for children in the shallow waters. From here you can swim around the rocks to the next long sandy beach of Makris Yialos. Beleive it or not some hardy turtles have battled their way through the beach avoiding being stabbed by umbrellas and have laid eggs here in the past. Unfortunately after being handled by uninformed and fascinated onlookers - the baby turtles died. Please go to Flora and Fauna section and read up on the TURTLE CODE and remember to flatten your sandcastles before leaving the beach.

Whilst in theory there are no private beaches in Greece (unless you happen to own the whole island!), the beach at the White Rocks hotel is used virtually solely by the hotel guests as access is through the hotel grounds. Here there are sunbeds and beach umbrellas free of charge for the hotel guests.

Long Beach.
This is the main long sandy beach at Lassi where you will find a taverna and snack-bar above the beach with excellent views and steps down to the beach. On the beach below there are two snack-bars and two Water Sports centres. Sunbeds and umbrellas are lined up ready for customers.

Known locally as Antonio's beach as he supplies sunbeds and umbrellas. There is a snack bar by the beach. Turning left when you arrive at the beach there is easy access over the rocks to a longer sandy stretch; turning right along the ribbon of sand, you will find some rocks which are also easily climbed over. This brings you out to the sandy stretch in front of the Mediterranee Hotel with its beachside self-service snack bar. Rocks here are great for snorkeling and the jetty in front of the Mediterranee is a good place for fishing.

People often think the beach at the Mediterranee Hotel is a private beach but whilst non-hotel guests are not permitted to use the swimming pool at the hotel, they may walk through the hotel grounds to the beach and self-service snack-bar. Another way to get to the beach is to go through the hotel reception and take the lift right down to beach level. This is useful for anybody with walking difficulties. The beach is sand and shingle and is open to the public. You can also reach this beach from the rocky outcrop at Paliostafida beach. There are changing rooms, freshwater showers and lifeguards in situ at certain hours of the day. Well done Mediterranee Hotel for keeping the beach clean and providing a service to non-guests as well as guests.

At the beginning of Lassi there are a few little coves with mink coloured sand and rock formations providing endless hours of happy snorkelling in the little sea caves in the area. You need to clamber down the rocks to reach the first cove, swim round to the second cove, but the third beach is easily accessible by rough track and has a little snack-bar overlooking the bay for drinks and snacks and sunbed hire.

At the end of the Fanari coastal road and the beginning of the Lassi resort is the sandy cove of Kalamia named after the bamboo plants in the area. Access is by a rough track which starts from the Fanari road near the restaurant To Psito. There is a small taverna on the beach which also rents out sunbeds and beach umbrellas run by Panayiotis. To the left of the beach is a rocky outcrop and a cave which is excellent for snorkelling.

The Fanari road is the coastal road which runs from Lassi to Argostoli and is known as the romantic road which passes through a pine forest. Along this route are a few pebbly and sandy coves surrounded by rocks which you have to clamber down rocks to reach the beach. There is a small pebbly cove opposite the Galaxy Hotel which is easily accessible. This beach has no facilities but the hotel is nearby for drinks and snacks at their pool bar.

Along the Fanari Road, near the Argostoli end not far from Katavothres Swallow Holes is the local campiste with sand and shingle beach across the road from its entrance.

A tiny shingle bay by a small marina just outside Argostoli town at the end of the Fanari road. This used to be the council run beach and its changing rooms have now been converted into a taverna.
