Dreams Apartments Katelios Beach

Dreams are made of sweeping sugar-sand softly shelving into azure waters. For 15 years the Milas family dreamed of the day they could build their apartments by the sea at Katelios. The prime location is in the district known as Elios by the beach of Aghia Barbara.

But in the 2nd century BC the Romans arrived and started building mansions with mosaic floors in the Elios-Pronoi area. So when Lambrini and Makis started to dig the foundations of their dream accommodation they uncovered coins and other remains dating back to the Roman period. Official excavations were commenced in the area and red tape tied up their plans while the archaeologists revealed the walls of a Roman villa.

The Milas family in the meantime became famous in Argostoli for their taverna (named Eleios to keep their dream alive) on the harbour front. When the archaeologists exhausted their search of the area and declared that building could commence, there were great cellebrations at the taverna.

Finally, in a peaceful paradise on the south eastern coast of the island, they have built DREAMS Apartments, set in rural seclusion 75 metres from the sandy beach of Aghia Barbara which is a Blue Flag beach.

Each of the apartments has a balcony from which to admire the sea and coastline around the beaches of Kaminia and cape Mounda. Alongside the building is a brook that babbles through all seasons as the stream brings cool fresh water down from the slopes of Mount Ainos which provides the backdrop to the area. In one of the fields behind the apartments a small herd of cows graze, unaware of their surrounding scenic beauty and the gardens at DREAMS Apartments ar all the better for them.

At DREAMS apartments you will find a choice of studios each with a double bed, en-suite shower and w.c and a kitchenette area for preparation of light meals.

The rooms are air-conditioned and include a tv. The larger apartments have a separate bedroom with double bed and a sofa in the living room which converts into two more beds. There is a large kitchen area and dining area to seat four persons. Balconies have wonderful scenic views.

Some apartments are split-level maisonettes which sleep 4 persons.

DREAMS is a wonderful place for children as the apartments are set in spacious gardens and there is freedom just to run down to the sea-shore which is a few minutes away without any traffic to worry about.

Kefalonia has short mild winters and warm autumn and spring. The charter flights may stop at the end of October but you can continue to sunbathe and swim in November with special rates at Dreams 25 euro studios and 35 euros apartments (per apartment not per person.

Breakfast is served at the Dreams Beach Bar in front of the accommodation where you will find a choice of continental or full English breakfast and drinks and snacks are available throughout the day.

Panayis and Kristina run the Dreams Beach Bar. It only opened in June 2006 and soon Kristina's mother and father came over from the UK to help out.

The barman specialises in his own brand of Katelios Cocktail. The ingredients are a close kept family secret.

A menu offering full English breakfasts, snacks and meals throughout the day cleverly combines home-made British cooking with the Greek cuisine. So instead of sausage, chips and beans, the menu offers sausage, Greek-style yigantes and 'island-famous' real fried potatoes!

For such a tiny little hideaway by one of the lesser-known beaches on Kefalonia, the bar is busy and the atmosphere is great. It's a mix of locals, locally integrated ex-pats and ex-tourists who have turned into regular visitors.

Katelios sea-front by the jetty is famous for its fresh fish restaurants which are just a short walk away along the beach. In the village of Katelios there are bars, tavernas and mini-markets.
Exploring the local area by foot will reveal a wealth of flora and fauna and there are 13 Roman water mills set between Katelios and nearby Pastra and the remains of the Byzantine chapel of Saint Andreas with its rocky belltower are to be found in Ano

Katelios. You can hire a motor-boat to reach some secluded coves in the area and hire cars are available in the village.

The beach at Aghia Barbara in Katelios is not the main nesting area of the local caretta-caretta turtles, but as it sometimes attracts the loggerheads, it is occasionally patrolled by the Katelios Group for the Protection of Turtles and anybody staying at the apartments should follow the turtle code. Theramona village is about mid-way between the famous resorts of Skala and Lourdas on the south coast of Kefalonia. The village itself is near Mavrata village which is famous for its Robolla winery.

This private residence is a two-storey house converted into separate apartments. The ground floor has an open plan living room and kitchen/dining area with two bedrooms and two shower/wc rooms

The first floor apartment has 2 bedrooms, one of which is in the attic plus a bathroom. The kichen/dining area is in an open-plan living room with a cosy fire-place. On the ground floor there is a wood-burning fire.

The house is in a rural setting with views to the south from the balonies on the first floor and ground floor terraces. Bedrooms have fitted wardrobes.
