Mounda Bay is set beween the resort of Skala which is well known for its long sandy beaches and watersports and the lesser known fishing village of Katelios.
Mounda Beach
There is very little commercialisation at Mounda Beach which makes it ideal for lovers of nature who want to relax in a beautiful and peaceful environment. It is ideal for children as the beach is made up of pale golden sand with very shallow warm water.
Caretta Caretta
The beaches at Mounda are home to loggerhead turtles which return each year to lay their eggs in the soft sand. It is not difficult for visitors to Mounda to respect the environment and share it with the turtles by following a few easy rules for their preservation. (Take away your litter, flatten out any sand-castles and keep umbrellas near to the water line, leaving clean flat sand for the turtles. The beach and turtles should be left in peace in the evening as they are distracted by noise and lights).
Beach Facilities
The area of Mounda is not commercialised and there is one beach bar serving drinks and snacks with beach umbrellas and sunbeds for rent.
Katelios
It is possible to walk along the beaches of Mounda to the beach at Katelios but this requires scrambling over rocks and it may be better to use the longer route by road. At Katelios there is a small beach at Aghia Barbara which has a snack bar nearby. Further along the coast at Katelios is a selection of fish tavernas and in the village there are a few more tavernas and bars.
Skala
The resort of Skala is 3 kms away from the Hotel Mounda Beach and offers a great variety of places to eat as well as lively bars and full range of water-sports.
Local excursions
Motor-boats can be hired in Katelios for exploring secluded coves and in Skala you can hire a speed-boat. Skala also offers marine trips by glass-bottom boat.
Island touring
The rest of Kefalonia can easily be explored by car or by coach trips which collect from Katelios and Skala offering day-trips to see the famous Melisani cave, Drogarati caves, Assos and Fiscardo in the north. There are also trips by coach and boat to the nearby islands of Lefkas, Ithaca and Zante.
