In the Middle Ages when Kefalonia was tormented by pirates, guards were posted on rises to keep watch on the sea for any oncoming hazards. These rises were called 'viglae' and now from VIGLA you look out across the Ionian Sea to Zante, to he east with the Ainos mountain range and to the west as far as the cape of Liakas.
