2008 Update

A very Happy New Year from the Agni team, where here in Greece we have enjoyed an exceptionally mild Christmas - our pre-Christmas office party was held outside, around Villa Persephone's pool!

The last crumbs have been hoovered up by the local strays who thought that all their Christmases had come at once!

The Agni team members are all now back in the office - some had 'defected' to the UK for Christmas pud and New Year sales - and are preparing for the fast-approaching Summer. They are ready and pleased to deal with any enquiries you may have and to help you make your 2008 holiday choice and arrangements.

The northeast corner of Corfu is a perfect example of natural harmony, with mountain crags overlooking rolling, olive-clad hills and a series of serene bays and coves, some of them still only accessible by boat. It would be impossible to find villas more desirably located than the three, all belonging to the same discerning owner, that are to be found right on the beachfront at Anassa, one kilometer north of Gaios. Mongonissi lies about 5 kms south of Gaios, a ten-minute drive by car. It is a pretty wooded bay almost closed off by a small islet reached via a causeway. It is a favourite anchorage with yachtsmen, and popular with visitors for its beauty and for its lovely sandy beach - one of only two sandy beaches on Paxos. At the end of the winding road which snakes along the Assos peninsula is a selection of accommodation for summer visitors. On this narrow stretch it is possible to see the village, beach and small harbour to one side and the rugged coastal scenery of dramatic white rocks against cobalt sea from the other. 2008 is a new year and we will have a new office!
Perched on the hillside, spread over two much-needed floors with a fabulous view of Nissaki Bay, stands the framework of the new Agni Travel office. Construction was halted between May and October to avoid noise disturbance to surrounding holidaymakers but things are moving on fast now! You will find the office on the right as you come up the north east coast immediately before the road sign for 'Banaratika' at Nissaki, about 100 metres before the Kaminaki petrol station.

As business has grown over the years, thanks to you - our valued customers, so has the need for more room to house the growing departments. With the additional space we will now all be able to swing a Greek cat round (fear not, it's just a figure of speech!) and hear ourselves think and speak - those of you who visited our smaller office nearby last summer will have appreciated the problem!

Stella will now have her own dedicated Sales office with her assistant Fotini (they're already debating which pin-ups will go on the walls...Stella favours Corfiot singer Sakis Rouvas, try googling him for a goggle), Ron will have lots more storage room for villa supplies and there will be plenty of extra space for Mary's Accounts, Rachel's R & D, Sofri's IT equipment and of course a plush pad for the boss Nathan who oversees everything. For you, the client, there will also be a nice 'room with a view' where you will be able to sit in comfort at your customer computer and view our property suggestions at your leisure...

We have spent much of last summer researching and visiting new destinations to offer you for 2008. Our studies have sent us far and wide - over the border to Italy for something different as well as to new Greek islands closer to home. We now believe we have something for everyone and present a taster of our new offerings below:

Just across the Adriatic Sea from Corfu lies the boot of Italy and the lure of more Mediterranean marvels. No wonder then that we started exploring further afield, found our way into Tuscany and were captivated by the wonderful scenery there - soft rolling hills, tall cypress trees and vast vineyards interspersed with outstanding yet complementary style properties full of character.

We decided to bring them to you and the result is our new Tuscany programme - a combination of fabulous private villas with and without pools, beautifully restored manoirs and more modern apartments. To begin with we have focused on that very special Tuscan area which lies between the art centre of Florence and picturesque Siena known as Chianti. Famed for its excellent wine, the same superlatives can be transferred to the region's mouthwatering cuisine and picture book landscape.

Santantimo was built in the early 16th century as an ancient oratory. In 1876 it underwent its first transformation into a farmhouse and only today, thanks to a skilful restoration project that brought the structure back to its original beauty, a country residence has been created. Modern-day Santorini is just a small part of the original island which blew up in a massive eruption around 1600 BCE leaving only the outer crater that we see today. Since then, thankfully, the volcano has remained dormant and the island welcomes its visitors with a smart and well-maintained port, dominated by the cruise ships disgorging passengers for a short stopover. A longer stay though is needed to appreciate the island's delights - the spectacular views from 300 m high Fira town (which many access by local donkey), the dramatic landscape and incredible sunsets of magical Ioa, and the impressive archaeological site at Akrotiri.

Kalymnos, one of the Dodecanese islands of the Aegean, is very mountaineous with impressive rock crags, deep caves and an abundance of aromatic plants such as sage, thyme and oregano. Known as the 'sponge-diver's island' due to its past main industry and wealth-producing source, the island has recently gained an airport which makes it now more easily accessible.

The island's capital is the vibrant little town and harbour of Pothia which has some beautiful architecture with lovely monasteries overlooking the cliffs. North and south of Kalymnos are picturesque beaches of shingle and sand as well as isolated coves to discover by boat. Dining on Kalymnos is an absolute treat and the quality of food is evident - fresh fish, accompanied by local specialities and 'mezze' make every meal a memorable one.
